2023 24 Hour Poetry Marathon

Today is marathon day! I only do the 12 hour marathon now as staying up late is just not in my vocabulary any more. I finally have a breather to catch up on today’s poems. I’ll try to continue to post on the hour once I catch up!

Hour One. 24 Hour Poetry Marathon

Prompt: “This is how she found us/ the past draped about us like a cloak” from Selkie Weaning Young (Redux) by Diana Khoi Nguyen

Antecedents

I walked into the morning
Sun not yet eyes opened
weight around my shoulder
a black hole sucking me in
heavy hands pressing me
curling
head bowed

The first seam of light
split over the horizon
drawing me up

I lift my chin
release night’s cloak
antecedent’s grasp

A new day sanctified
