Reverb10 – December 2 – Writing

Glowing at me from the corner of the room
you lure me into your spell.
It is so easy to acquiesce,
to unfold my tired muscles and
slip into the enveloping succor
of the pillowy chair.
My feet relieved of their quotidian
encumbrances for the day.
Your luminous screen,
numbing memories with utopian promises.
Gossip dressed as news.
Greed impersonating God.
Holding me hostage
From the simple pleasure of my words
flowing from my soul
to my fingertips and onto the page.
I can break you, effulgent monster,
Tame you with less attentiveness,
Subdue you by omission.
Then the peaceful offering of silence will be mine,
but for the clicking of the keys.
My fingers gently tapping,
emancipating the code of my canon.
Today’s prompt: December 2 – Writing. What do you do each day that doesn’t contribute to your writing — and can you eliminate it? (Author: Leo Babauta)
I enjoyed writing this poem in response to today’s prompt.  I allow television and the computer  to use up too much of my time.
